Les filles qui lisent

INITIATED IN 2016, LES FILLES QUI LISENT IS AN ONGOING PROJECT AIMING TO PROVIDE A CONTEMPORARY TRIBUNE FOR CONVERSATIONS AND EXCHANGE. ROOTED IN LIVELY LITERARY PRACTICES, IT BUILDS A UNITING CULTURAL CONTEXT AROUND A CORE OF MEANINGFUL THEMATICS.

THROUGH CLOTHES, TEXT, TALKS, STILL AND MOVING IMAGES, LES FILLES QUI LISENT SERVES AS A RECIPIENT FOR STATEMENTS THAT QUESTION OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH WORDS.

WITH REFORMULATION, RE-CONTEXTUALIZATION, PLAYFUL INVENTION, A GALAXY OF IDEAS AND REFERENCES TAKES SHAPE, PROVIDING A RICH AND SUBTLE CONCEPTUAL LANDSCAPE.

THROUGH ITS PROJECTS, LES FILLES INSTILLS A NEW LIFE IN THE CREATION OF DISCOURSE.

MULTIPLE PROBLEMATICS ARE GRASPED, DIVERSE MEDIUMS ARE USED, STRONG MESSAGES ARE ASSESSED. EVERYTHING IS LANGUAGE HERE.

FOR ITS FIRST INSTALLATION, LES FILLES QUI LISENT TOOK THE FORM OF AN EXHIBITION MIXING FASHION, LITERATURE AND TECHNOLOGY.

150 WOMEN HAVE BEEN FILMED READING TO CREATE A VIDEO WORK. THE ACT OF READING IS UNIQUE, INTIMATE AND FUNDAMENTALLY POETIC. BY GIVING A TOTAL FREEDOM TO THE READERS IN THEIR CHOICE TO READ A TEXT, THE WORK FOCUSES ON THE READER, HER APPROACH TO READING, HER POSTURES, HER PERSONAL WAY TO EMBODY THE TEXT, AND OF COURSE THE TEXT ITSELF.

MADE OUT OF 16 SYNCHRONISED SCREENS, THE VIDEO WORK IS THE EXHIBITION’S CENTRAL ELEMENT. IT HAS BEEN DIRECTED BY ROMAIN KINNOO AND SET UP BY PERRON ET FRÈRES ; IT OFFERS A NEW EXPERIENCE OF THE ACT OF READING.

A SPACE SPECIFIC SOUND WORK, SPECIFICALLY CREATED BY COLLECTIVE ALCÔME, GUIDES THE VISITOR THROUGH THE EXHIBITION.

AN IMMERSIVE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE, IMAGINED BY ARFORIA, COMPLETES THE SYSTEM BY PLUNGING THE VISITOR INTO A VIRTUAL WORLD.

THIS PROJECT WAS PRESENTED ON JUNE 29TH 2017 AT GALERIE MR14 IN PARIS, FRANCE.
